BMS delegation met the textile minister and discussed different issues; the Minister responded positively
A high-level delegation of Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) met Hon. Textile Minister Sri Giriraj Singh on 1st September 2026 and discussed different problems related to the textile sector. The delegation deliberated on the following areas –
1. NTC Mills: Payment of pending wages; victimisation and harassment of BMS&MLF leaders in Coimbatore by the local management on false allegations for demanding to resolve their issues, restarting of production in 12 modernised mills; sanction of a special package to NTC Mills.
2. Jute: Appointing a special team to study the conditions of quarters existing in labour colonies of Jute mills situated in West Bengal; incentives to mills that implemented diversification of products; stopping exploitation of labour by the private management; enhancing wages and regularisation of contractual labour; providing support to Jute farmers, etc.
3. Handloom & Silk: Give priority to handloom and silk sectors which provide large-scale employment. Impart skill training in using modern technology, new designs and provide market facilities to enhance their income levels. Start Common handloom clusters which will work like a single-window platform in selected states.
4. Readymade Garments: The readymade garments industry will provide huge employment opportunities. Once again, it was demanded to start mega textile parks in selected clusters in different states.
5.Wage board: Formation of a wage board to negotiate wage structure. Fixing wages solely based on the Consumer Price Index is unjust. The delegation brought to the notice of the Hon. Minister that, in areas like Bhilwara, a floor-level worker will get only Rs 470 per day.
The delegation was led by Sri B. Surendran, All India Organising Secretary. The other members are: Sri Anil Dhumne, All India Vice President; Sri Jai Nath Choubey, Textile sector in charge; Sri Shyam Singh Chouhan, General Secretary, Vastra Udyog Karmachari Mahasangh; Sri Harishankar Prasad, General Secretary, Jute Mazdoor Mahasangh; and Sri Ghanashyam Pandey of Textile Federation. The meeting lasted for 75 minutes.
The Minister responded positively to the demands raised by the delegation and instructed officials to form a Special team to study the status of the Labour colonies of Jute mills, and agreed on measures to increase the income levels of handloom, power loom, Silk, and Ready-Made garment workers. The Minister said the Government is exploring all possible ways to settle wage dues to NTC mill workers; wants to increase jute production on 1.5 lakh acres of land, which will lead to enhanced employment opportunities. Formulate Special plans under PM Mitra Yojana to treate more livelihoods in the garments sector. The Minister advised the delegation to consider alternative fibres to meet society’s changing needs.
